Insulation in Commercial Roofing

IMG_2065When replacing an existing commercial roof, or putting the roof on a new commercial project, one of the most expensive parts can be the insulation. There are different options available to commercial building owners, but the most common insulation used in commercial projects is polyisocyanurate insulation.

There are two main functions of the roof insulation. The first function of the roof insulation is to provide a substrate for the roof membrane that is being installed over it. The second main function is the provide thermal resistance.

The amount of insulation that is necessary will be determined by the R-value required for the project. The R-value can vary based on the building’s intended use, building code requirements and owner preference. Insulation should always be installed in two layers so that the joints of the insulation can be staggered.
